Health is the cornerstone of our lives. Unfortunately, many medical rating sites and resources are influenced by commercial interests, making it difficult to find reliable healthcare information. DoveMed strives to be a trusted online resource, offering high-quality medical information to both healthcare seekers and providers on an easy-to-use platform accessible to anyone, anytime.

DoveMed’s growth required a delicate balance between responding to client feature requests and building a scalable infrastructure that supports future developments.

To navigate these challenges, the DoveMed team adopted a flexible, experimental approach that encouraged creativity and structure:

Kubernetes implementation

As the user base and feature set expanded, the entire service was migrated to Kubernetes. This shift enabled the site to handle increased traffic, meet new technological demands, and maintain high availability and resilience against potential disruptions.

Ephemeral environments

Kubernetes, combined with custom solutions, enabled the development of ephemeral environments. This innovative approach allowed the team to develop, test, and review each feature in an isolated branch.

Infrastructure as code

Implementing infrastructure as code streamlined infrastructure management, increased performance, and reduced costs, cutting AWS expenses by around 40%. This setup offers an elegant and transparent solution that keeps the DevOps team aligned and ensures a single source of truth for all team members.

Despite the numerous challenges that emerged throughout the project, they’ve built an incredibly complex platform. The website is well-structured, stable, and able to accommodate 500,000 users each month. More than 1.2 million physicians are registered on the site, and traffic is increasing by 15% each month.
